Singer, songwriter and actor Josh Groban has joined the cast of an upcoming dramedy series. Netflix announced today that Groban will play Tony Jr., “an earnest, obsessively honest NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules,” on “The Good Cop.”

The character is the son of Tony Sr., played by Tony Danza. Tony Sr. is described in today’s announcement as “a disgraced former NYPD officer who never followed the rules.”

“The Good Cop” has an order for 10 one-hour episodes. In the series, father and son “become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly cautious son blunt, street-wise advice on everything from handling suspects to handling women,” the announcement notes.

Andy Breckman, the creator of “Monk,” is showrunner and executive producer, with Randy Zisk (“Bones,” “Monk”) and Howard Klein (“The Office,” “The Mindy Project”) as executive producers. Danza also serves as a producer.
