“The X-Files” creator Chris Carter and stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny break down last season’s cliffhanger and tease the new season of “The X-Files” in a new one-minute clip, which you can watch below. The series returns Jan. 3 for a 10-episode season on Fox.

Fox noted that the series delivered an average multiplatform audience of almost 16 million viewers during its 2016 revival and was last season’s No. 2 broadcast drama series. The show originally premiered in 1993.

“Over the course of its [original] nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time,” Fox says in promotional material for the upcoming season. “The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully and Mulder as they investigate unexplained cases — ‘X-Files’ — for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.”

Created and executive-produced by Carter, the series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions.
