“Disney has closed a deal with director Rian Johnson to develop a new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, and it is planning a live-action ‘Star Wars’ TV series to air on its entertainment streaming service that is expected to launch by the end of 2019,” Variety reports.

Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of Disney, announced the plans during the company’s quarterly earnings call.

“In addition to the ‘Star Wars’ TV series, Disney is working on TV series adaptations of Pixar’s ‘Monsters Inc.,’ the Disney Channel’s ‘High School Musical’ franchise and an original entry from Marvel,” Variety notes.

Johnson is the director of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” due in theaters Dec. 15. “He’s set to write and direct another trio of ‘Star Wars’ theatrical pics with his longtime collaborator Ram Bergman,” Variety reports.

  1. Can’t get enough of a good thing, huh? Wonder how many sharks they’ll jump before people just walk away. It WAS special for a while, but in their infinite wisdom (aka extremely deep pockets), they will drive this storyline straight into the ground.

  2. I tend to agree with Sneaky Pete, but only up to a point. I thought they did a good job on Rogue One, and perhaps the other non-Lucas movies will be good too. So, I’ll keep watching them until what Pete says happens.
