As the on-air personalities at NBC’s “Today” continue to grapple with the firing of network stalwart Matt Lauer, the network’s usually upbeat morning hours took on a somber tone today.
Among those coming to terms on the air with Lauer’s exit was Kathie Lee Gifford, who said, “It’s a very, very sad day at NBC.” Gifford offered a message of forgiveness, saying she had texted a note of support to Lauer this morning.
Gifford got personal in her reflections, discussing betrayal in her own marriage and saying of Lauer: “The man we know and adored was the man we loved and adored, and continue to.”
Gifford added: “No person is perfect in this world.”
Below is the clip posted by NBC with Gifford and Kotb discussing the Lauer situation. If you’ve already seen the announcement of Lauer’s firing by Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, you can skip ahead to 3:11 to hear Gifford’s comments …
