Three-time Oscar-nominated actress Debra Winger has been added to the cast of the Critics Choice Television Award-nominated Amazon Prime original series “Patriot.”

Winger will play Bernice Tavner, mother to lead John Tavner, in season two of the comedy series. Her character is a high-ranking federal government official whose obligation to her country requires distance from her son’s complicated work, while her son’s worsening mental state requires the close care of a mother.

Winger has been nominated for three Academy Awards, for lead performances in “An Officer and a Gentleman” (1982), “Terms of Endearment” (1983) and “Shadowlands” (1993). She is also an Emmy nominee for “Dawn Anna” (2005).
