An actress who chalked up more than 140 film and TV credits over the course of a long career, becoming known as the oldest working actress in Hollywood, has died. Deadline reports that Connie Sawyer died peacefully at her home in Woodland Hills, Calif. She was 105.
Sawyer, who earned the affectionate nickname “the Clown Princess of Comedy,” was working as recently as last year. Over the years her feature film work included roles in “Dumb and Dumber,” ‘Pineapple Express” and “When Harry Met Sally…,” along with a long string of TV guest appearances.
Her TV roles in recent years included Mrs. Sullivan on “Ray Donovan,” Ida on “NCIS: Los Angeles” and Nana on “The Office.” Her earlier TV work included appearances on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Laverne & Shirley,” “The Rockford Files,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Dynasty,” “Murder, She Wrote” and “Seinfeld.”
At the time of her death Sawyer was said to be the oldest working actor in Hollywood and the oldest member of both the Screen Actors Guild and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
