NBC Shuffles ‘Today’ Lineup in Wake of Matt Lauer Exit

Following the abrupt departure of “Today” show staple Matt Lauer, who got the boot from NBC in November amid sexual harassment allegations, the network has decided to fill the void by expanding the duties of Hoda Kotb.

Kotb, who has been co-hosting the 10 a.m. hour of “Today” with Kathie Lee Gifford, will remain in that role while also stepping up to co-anchor the 7-9 a.m. block with Savannah Guthrie. The new lineup debuted Tuesday morning.

Along with the announcement on the show, NBC News Group Chairman Andy Lack also made an official announcement via press release. Besides co-anchors Guthrie and Kotb, the 7-9 a.m. hours will continue to feature weather anchor Al Roker and Orange Room host Carson Daly.

Kotb joined NBC News in 1998 as a correspondent for “Dateline,” and has co-hosted the fourth hour of “Today” with Gifford since 2008.

Guthrie joined NBC News as a correspondent in 2007 and has been the co-anchor of ‘Today” since 2012. She also serves as the network’s chief legal correspondent.

  1. NBC made themselves look like fools. Matt Lauer is no monster. As a woman, I am thoroughly embarrassed by the ridiculous behavior.

  2. Not gonna help a sinking ship…

  3. Disgusted with the Today show crew for being afraid to speak up and defend their friend.

  4. If they booted obnoxious Al Roker, I might tune in again.

  5. MaryAn, I’m not sure I’m understanding your comment. You are DEFENDING Matt Lauer’s behavior??
