Vince McMahon Announces Return of the XFL

World Wrestling Entertainment founder Vince McMahon announced Thursday that he will bring back the XFL, which will begin play in 2020.

Similar to the first installment of the alternative pro football league, which was widely seen as a flop during its single season in 2001, the league will again consist of eight teams. The champion will be determined by a two-round playoff.

McMahon noted that the team locations, team names and other details remain to be determined. He described the new effort as “professional football reimagined,” and said the XFL’s brand of football will be “shorter, faster-paced, family-friendly and easier to understand.”

McMahon made the announcement in a news conference-style video, which you can watch below.
