Legendary singer, actress and filmmaker Barbra Streisand, a two-time Oscar winner, made a number of revelations in a new interview with Variety, but one that caught our attention was this tidbit:
“The only roles she’s interested in playing, she says, are that of French stage actress Sarah Bernhardt and Mama Rose in a big-screen adaptation of ‘Gypsy,’ which has had some false starts.”
She also dismissed rumors that she’s negotiating for a role in the new Netflix TV series “The Politician,” from Ryan Murphy. But she added that if she’s not busy making a movie, she might be interested in working on the show as a director or producer. “I like the script,” she says of the Murphy project.
But fans who are hoping for a return to the stage may be disappointed. Variety quotes Streisand saying: “I still have stage fright. I’m not going to sing live again. Scott Rudin and Barry Diller wanted me to do ‘Gypsy’ on Broadway and film it. I thought, ‘Are you kidding me?’”
