Stan Lee had a health scare this week, and he gave a scare to the legions of fans of the 95-year-old Marvel Comics icon after TMZ reported Thursday that Lee had been rushed to the hospital with a heart problem.

“Sources close to the comic book legend tell us … Lee was taken to Cedars-Sinai Wednesday night after suffering shortness of breath and an irregular heartbeat,” TMZ reported. At the time, Lee was said to still be in the hospital, in stable condition.

TMZ noted that he canceled two major convention appearances last year due to illness, although he never revealed the particulars of his health situation.

Since the initial report, Lee has been released after spending a night in the hospital, and is reportedly doing well. KABC-TV’s Eyewitness News scored a brief Skype interview with Lee Thursday in which he said: “All I really want to do is tell you that I’m feeling great.” (Watch the interview below.)

Lee added: “I’m glad I spent that evening in the hospital. It did me a lot of good. It probably did my fans a lot of good. It kept me off their backs for the evening. But I’m feeling good now and I can’t wait to get in there and tangle with all the competition.”

Lee, Marvel Comics’ former editor-in-chief, publisher and chairman, is credited with creating or co-creating much of the Marvel universe, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, Black Panther and the X-Men.

“He retains an emeritus role with the company and has made cameos in all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films,” the KABC report notes.
