No sooner was his first TV series canceled than news surfaced that the second series from M. Night Shyamalan has been given the green light.

On the heels of Fox’s official cancellation of Shyamalan’s supernatural drama series “Wayward Pines,” Variety reports that the filmmaker, best known for features such as “The Sixth Sense” and “Unbreakable,” has a straight-to-series order from Apple for a new psychological thriller.

The project comes from writer Tony Basgallop with Shyamalan set to executive produce as well as directing the first episode. Variety notes that plot details for the half-hour series, which has a 10-episode order, are being kept under wraps.

“The series will be produced by Shyamalan’s Blinding Edge Pictures with Ashwin Rajan serving as executive producer,” Variety notes. “Jason Blumenthal, Todd Black and Steve Tisch of Escape Artists will also executive produce, with Taylor Latham co-executive producing.”

  1. One 30-minute program isn’t going to put Apple into competition with Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Comcast, AT&T and Disney. They better have a lot more coming.
