Jim Carrey Urges Everyone to Delete Their Facebook Accounts and Unload Their Facebook Stock

Comedian Jim Carrey says he’s quitting Facebook, and he urged everyone else to follow suit — including encouraging investors to dump their Facebook stock.

Carrey sent out a tweet Tuesday using the hashtag #unfriendfacebook, explaining that Facebook “profited from Russian interference in our elections and they’re still not doing enough to stop it.”

You can see his tweet below.

CNBC reports that Carrey provided a statement saying: “We must encourage more oversight by the owners of these social media platforms. This easy access has to be more responsibly handled. What we need now are activist investors to send a message that responsible oversight is needed. What the world needs now is capitalism with a conscience.”

CNBC also quotes Carrey saying: “For a long time America enjoyed a geographical advantage in the world with oceans on both sides to protect it. Now, social media has created cyber-bridges over which those who do not have our best interest in mind can cross and we are allowing it. No wall is going to protect us from that.”

The CNBC report adds: “Facebook has admitted up to 126 million people saw Russian-bought ads intended to sway the 2016 U.S. election. The company has also said its algorithms recommended content created by Russian operatives. Initially CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the idea of Facebook impacting the elections was ‘crazy,’ but later apologized for dismissing the real concerns.”

  1. Where is he donating all the money he made off the Facebook stock?

    • To the Trump Foundation of course. They’ll do the right thing with the funds…

  2. Liberals loved social media when it gave them the edge in politics. Now that conservative candidates and organizations have mastered its use, I love seeing all the sour grapes. I don’t give a damn about the Russians. Politics always leads to strange partnerships. Whatever it takes to put smart, strong leadership back in charge of America.

Carrey has found yet another way to whine and bitch about Trump, even if indirectly. Sorry Jim, our president has us back on track, and there ain’t nothing Hollywood can do to stop it.

  3. Just FYI: I noticed a typo (at first I thought it was the way Carrey wrote the tweet, just forgot to include a “[sic]” after it, but his tweet does not appear that way, so it must be a typo). In the paragraph quoting his tweet:

“… explaining that Facebook “profited from Russian interference in our elections and tehy’re still not doing enough to stop it.”

I don’t see a “report typos or corrections to ________ email” so I’m posting it here, thanks.

  4. I love Jim but he might have wanted to wait until all of the facts were in before jumping on this bandwagon. As it turns out it wasn’t even FB doing any of this but they failed to see it coming and are doing something to stop this from happening again. If you get voting information from social media it’s not them it’s YOU who needs to rethink how lazy you became to let any and everything you read influence voting decisions. Do your own homework next time and not on Twitter or Facebook!

That having been said, there are good things Trump intended but he’s done a good deal to discredit the US and that is undeniable. I want to see him do the right thing but am losing hope with an adult man who seems to act more like a spoiled teen than an impressive representative of us all. YES, we have a border problem, it needs to be solved humanely and fairly. Let us pray he doesn’t take it out on our neighbors to the South as they are a great asset to us.
