ABC Pulls Episode of ‘black-ish’

“ABC has indefinitely shelved a politically and socially themed episode of ‘black-ish’ as a result of creative differences with showrunner Kenya Barris,” Variety reports. “The network has no plan at this time to air the episode or make it available through other forms of distribution.”

The report notes that the episode, titled “Please, Baby, Please,” was originally scheduled to air Feb. 27.

“ABC revealed in a scheduling announcement on Feb. 22 that the episode would be replaced with a rerun of the single-camera family comedy, but did not provide any additional detail at that time about why the change had been made or when ‘Please, Baby, Please’ would air,” Variety reports.

The report quotes an ABC spokesperson saying: “One of the things that has always made ‘black-ish’ so special is how it deftly examines delicate social issues in a way that simultaneously entertains and educates. However, on this episode there were creative differences we were unable to resolve.”

Variety notes that the episode, directed by Barris, touches on “multiple political and social issues,” such as the rights of athletes to kneel during the national anthem. For additional details about the episode, we encourage readers to click on the link above to Variety.

  1. Yeah, this show was pretty funny when it started, but too many “political” and “social” issues have sucked the life right out of it. Don’t watch it anymore. I watch a sit-com to laugh (like Modern Family) not to get “woke.”

  2. dumb-ish.
