A critically acclaimed series running on Netflix has picked up a renewal from the streaming service, which announced today that it will bring back “Black Mirror” for a fifth season.
Created by Charlie Brooker, the science fiction anthology series debuted in 2011. It picked up two Primetime Emmys last year for the episode “San Junipero,” winning Outstanding Television Movie and earning a trophy for Brooker for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special.
In announcing the renewal, Netflix released the following blurb about the show: “‘Black Mirror’ is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable — and sometimes unsettling — conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm — a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone — a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us.”
Besides creating and writing the show, Brooker executive produces along with Annabel Jones.
