A series of investigative reports that examined how some high-opioid prescribers have avoided scrutiny was being praised by some in law enforcement. TVNewsCheck reports that the three-part series, “Licensed to Pill,” by Raycom’s National Investigative Team, was led by Lee Zurik of Raycom’s New Orleans Fox affiliate WVUE-TV.
“One law enforcement officer told us that our data analysis gave him a new roadmap to investigate doctors,” said Zurik.
The series “analyzed the nation’s top 1,000 prescribers of opioids to Medicare patients and found just 10% had ever been sanctioned,” TVNewsCheck reports. “A week after the story aired featuring the nation’s top opioid prescriber, federal agents raided his Tennessee office.”
