As the current broadcast season’s ratings phenomenon, ABC’s “Roseanne” revival was closely watched on its second night Tuesday, and not surprisingly, its numbers were down from its big premiere.

Variety reports that the show’s overnight ratings show “Roseanne” settled for a 3.9 rating in the key demo of adults 18-49 along with 15.2 million total viewers — down 25% in the demo and 17% in viewers. In week one, when ABC aired back-to-back episodes, the “Roseanne” hour averaged a 5.2 rating in 18-49 and 18.4 million total viewers.

On Tuesday night, “the ‘Roseanne’ bump translated into a good night for ‘The Middle,’ which was up significantly airing immediately after the revival with a 2.2 and 8.3 million viewers,” Variety notes. “That is a new season high in both measures for the comedy series.”

The best any show on the other networks could manage in the demo Tuesday night was a 1.8 average rating for NBC’s “The Voice” (along with 9.3 million total viewers), while CBS’s “NCIS” came closest in total viewers with 12.1 million (1.3 average rating in 18-49).

For prime time overall, ABC won the 18-49 demo with a 1.8 average, followed by CBS and NBC tied for second with 1.2 averages, the Fox with a 0.6 and the CW with a 0.4. CBS won total viewers with 10.5 million, ahead of NBC with 6.7 million while ABC settled for third with 6.6 million; Fox placed fourth with 1.9 million followed by the CW with 1.2 million.

  1. Ratings dropped because it’s too political

    • Ratings drop because ratings drop. Anyone that expected this show to hold its audience is a fool.

  2. At least it wasn’t one-sided pathetic. The scenes between Roseanne and her sister going back and forth about Trump and Hilary were amusing. But no big surprise not as many tuned back in for the second week. As funny as Roseanne and John Goodman are, pushing the agenda of a cross dressing pubescent. is pathetic. As quiet as conservatives are, their actions are louder than LGBTQ Hollywood voices. Click.

  3. Typing error. I meant one-sided political.
