Celebrity Judge Offers Bitter Recollections of Her Time on NBC’s ‘The Voice’

A former celebrity judge on NBC’s “The Voice” had more than a few unkind words to describe her time on the show. In an in-depth interview with Billboard, Christina Aguilera likened the show to a “churning hamster wheel” and said doing the show was an “energy sucker.”

Aguilera, who judged the singing competition from 2011-2016, clearly appears to be done with the show.

“I didn’t get into this business to be a television show host and to be given all these [rules],” she told the publication. “Especially as a female: You can’t wear this, can’t say that. I would find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothing or makeup or hair. It was my only kind of outlet.”

The pop singer added: “It became something that I didn’t feel was what I had signed up for in season one. You realize it’s not about music. It’s about making good TV moments and massaging a story.”
