In Unprecedented Move, Bill Cosby Is Kicked Out of TV Academy Hall of Fame

On the heels of his conviction on sexual assault charges, comedian and TV icon Bill Cosby has been kicked out of the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame, Deadline reports.

Cosby’s name and statue were removed from the Hall, the story reports. A spokesperson for the Academy told the publication that all references to Cosby were also removed from the website.

Cosby was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992.

“Removing a member of the TV Academy’s Hall of Fame is unprecedented, so it’s unclear what the procedure might be for such a move,” Deadline notes. “Regardless, the scrubbing of Cosby’s name and bust is an indication the group is distancing itself from the actor-comedian.”

  1. The Television Academy’s Hall of Fame is trying to revise history. In Germany, they did not tear down the concentration camps after World War 2. They kept them but they had signs telling the story of what had taken place at the locations and the atrocities that had occurred there. They wanted people to be reminded of what happened so it would never happen again. As George Santayana wrote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” (The Life of Reason: Reason in Common Sense.) They need to leave the accolades that he received but put next to his bust (or whatever other items are included), a message as to what he was convicted of, and his shame should send a message to anyone else that might consider doing the things he did. This is as dumb as people wanting to remove statues of Confederate members that were slave holders. Leave the items in place but put signs telling the shameful things they did. Don’t try to bury history. Remember if for what it was and don’t repeat the same mistakes again. If people don’t know the past, they will repeat it. Don’t pretend it never happened.
