Original ‘SCTV’ Cast Members Rounded Up for Scorsese-Directed TV Special

The original cast of “SCTV” is being reassembled — the latest to confirm he will be a part of the upcoming Netflix tribute to the legendary comedy troupe is Rick Moranis.

Netflix announced that Moranis will join Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Dave Thomas for the SCTV comedy special, set to roll out in 2019.

Academy Award-winning director, producer and screenwriter Martin Scorsese will direct the untitled Netflix special delving into the enduring legacy of the Emmy-winning sketch comedy show “SCTV.”

CTV is on board as a broadcast partner in Canada. Netflix will premiere the title globally in all territories, with the exception of Canada, where it will premiere exclusively on CTV. Following CTV’s airing, the SCTV comedy special will be available exclusively on Netflix in Canada and worldwide.

The SCTV cast will gather this Sunday for “An Afternoon with SCTV,” moderated by Jimmy Kimmel in Toronto’s historic Elgin Theatre at 3 p.m., with the filming to be part of the Netflix special.

The original Canadian show aired for six seasons from 1976 to 1984. The series’ stars include some of the most beloved and celebrated names in comedy, including the late John Candy and Harold Ramis.
