“In an unusual victory for Democrats, the Senate voted narrowly Wednesday to keep in place so-called ‘net neutrality”’ rules that prevent internet providers from blocking or slowing users’ access to certain websites and charging more for faster delivery of some content,” reports USA Today.
The story says the vote was 52-47: “Three Republicans – Susan Collins of Maine, John Kennedy of Louisiana and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska – joined all 49 Democrats in voting to keep the regulations in place.”
Notes NPR, in its story about the vote, “The legislative victory is fleeting because the House does not intend to take similar action, but Democrats are planning to carry the political fight over Internet access into the 2018 midterms.
Thus the vote, “to nullify the Federal Communications Commission’s net neutrality rollback,” NPR says, was basically “a symbolic blow to the FCC’s new rule that remains on track to take effect next month.”
Every time their Netflix or other programming stops because of buffering issues they should remember this. The major video companies should not be held back to keep the average person’s email moving at the same speed as video.
WOW! So just who is going to pay for those customers who use bandwidth, i.e. video streaming, like there is no tomorrow!. Prices will have to increase for those customers who just get E-Mail, surf the Internet, or watch the occasional Netflix at the same price as the bandwidth hogs!!! Does this remotely seem neutral??? HUM!
