Actor John Boyega joined what has become an increasingly toxic social media environment for key players in the “Star Wars” universe.

Boyega, who has been playing Finn in the latest films in the “Star Wars” series, appeared to respond to disgruntled “Star Wars” fans who have been so vocal about their complaints on social media that two “Star Wars” actresses, Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran, have recently shut down their social media activities.

Boyega tweeted today: “If you don’t like Star Wars or the characters understand that there are decisions makers and harassing the actors/ actresses will do nothing. You’re not entitled to politeness when your approach is rude. Even if you paid for a ticket!”

He later followed with a message reading: “To the majority of Star Wars fans thank you for supporting and putting yourselves in our shoes. You understand that there is a process so much appreciated !”

The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision notes: “Tran recently made headlines after she deleted all of her Instagram posts, seemingly because she could no longer stand racist and sexist vulgarities directed her way from trolls who had a problem with her character in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’ Tran has yet to publicly comment on the matter, but members of the ‘Star Wars’ family have offerred support.”

The report notes that actor and “Star Wars” icon Mark Hamill added his voice to the debate on June 6 when he tweeted a picture of himself and Tran along with the message: “#GetALifeNerds … What’s not to love?”
