An Open champion and PGA champ who is one of professional golf’s most colorful figures has quit the USGA in a dispute over golf carts.

The New York Post reports that John Daly announced he will not play again in a USGA tournament. The move comes after the USGA denied Daly’s request to use a golf cart during the U.S. Senior Open.

“The two sides had dug in to their positions — Daly insisting he has a bad right knee, and insisting he has medical evidence to prove it, while the USGA says it ‘offered Mr. Daly the opportunity to provide additional information’ to justify his cart use, and says he would not,” The Post reports.

The report adds: “To Daly, this is not an isolated incident of poor USGA decision-making, but par for the course. He saw the recent suspect conditions at the US Open, for which executive director of the USGA Mike Davis had to apologize, as just another example of USGA incompetence.”
