Colbert, Fallon Collaborate to Rebut Trump — Watch It Now

In a TV first, the opening Tuesday night of both NBC’s “Tonight Show” and CBS’s “Late Show” were combined.

“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon and “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert collaborated on the opening, with an assist from Conan O’Brien. The cold opening was the same on both the “Tonight” and “Late Show” programs. After the cold opening each show went to their respective templates.

What spurred the effort was an attack on both hosts by Donald Trump.

As Rolling Stone reported, “During a speech in South Carolina Monday, Trump complained about the top late-night hosts at the three major networks, mentioning Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel by name and referring to Colbert as ‘the guy on CBS.’ In their new cold open, Colbert and Fallon discussed the matter on video chat, cheekily referring to each other as ‘lowlife’ and ‘lost soul,’ the pejoratives Trump used to describe them.”

Here’s the cold opening that ran Tuesday night (this version was the one used on CBS’s “Late Show”) …

  1. This was very funny and the stars should be commended for their willingness to work together in what was a fair rebuttal to some of Trump’s twitters and statements. This type of actually funny rebuttals to Trump would be much more entertaining than forcing us to just listen to lectures.

  2. What a shock, proving yet again why their ratings are plummeting.
