Former NFL Pro Bowler Denied Bail, Faces Possibility of Multiple Life Prison Terms — Judge Offers a Weird Reason for His Decision

A former NFL player who was a Pro Bowl selection during his nine-year career must remain in jail following an unusual ruling Thursday in which the judge referenced the “Mission: Impossible” movies in justifying his decision.

NBC Sports reports that Kellen Winslow II, the son of five-time Pro Bowl tight end Kellen Winslow, “was arrested on burglary charges, but after bailing out on those, was arrested again on a warrant charging him with kidnapping and rape of older women. He has pleaded not guilty, and was deemed a danger to the public at his first bail hearing.”

Winslow II, who was a Pro Bowl selection at tight end in 2007, reportedly faces multiple life sentences if convicted.

The report notes that Winslow’s lawyers asked for house arrest for Winslow, pointing out that he has a security system that could presumably keep track of his movements.

The report quotes the judge answering: “So, what about all these movies I watch like ‘Mission: Impossible’ and stuff like that where they create this endless loop? So the guy, like the Russians watching something … he sees everything is fine and meanwhile, Tom Cruise and all his folks are going around the scene and doing all this stuff.”

An attorney for Winslow reportedly responded: “Tom Cruise isn’t on our team yet.”

Nonetheless, the judge denied Winslow’s bail.

  1. Are you serious? Some one needs to check out the judge as it seems like retirement would be a good idea right about now.

  2. Are we sure this isn’t Trump’s backup nominee for the Supreme Court if / when the wheels come flying off Kavanaugh nomination.
