Univision’s Gizmodo Cuts Staff

Jun 29, 2018  •  Post A Comment

Gizmodo Media, a part of Univision, is scaling down its editorial staff, The New York Post reports, with 44 people — about 20% of the staff — accepting buyouts.

“The staffers had unionized with the Writers Guild of America East last year,” the story reports. “They become the latest in the once-high-flying digital publishing world to experience downsizings. In the past year, BuzzFeed cut about 100 people, Vice laid off about 60, and Vox and Mashable each axed 50.”

The report adds: “Rumors are swirling that Univision would like to sell its Fusion and Gizmodo Media operations following its own abandoned IPO plans earlier this year.”

The report cites a staff memo Thursday from Gizmodo editorial director Susie Banikarim, who said the buyouts mean Gizmodo will at least avoid involuntary layoffs.

  1. What impact did the union election have on this? Positive or negative?

  2. The first movie released was Iron Male in 2008, adhered to by The Extraordinary Hunk, Iron Guy, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and then Marvel’s The Avengers. Every one of these flicks were met essential honor and box office success.
