Nominations for the 39th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards were announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), with PBS topping the list with 45 nominations. CBS leads the broadcast networks with 31 nods, followed by ABC with 20.

CNN and HBO each received 22 nominations.

The awards will be presented Monday, Oct. 1, in a ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in the Time Warner Complex at Columbus Circle in New York City.

Adam Sharp, interim president and CEO of NATAS, commented in today’s announcement: “New technologies are opening up endless new doors to knowledge, instantly delivering news and information across myriad platforms. With this trend comes the immense potential to inform and enlighten, but also to manipulate and distort. Today we honor the talented professionals who through their work and creativity defend the highest standards of broadcast journalism and documentary television, proudly providing the clarity and insight each of us needs to be an informed world citizen.”

In addition to celebrating this year’s nominees in 49 categories, the National Academy will honor Paula S. Apsell, senior executive director of PBS’s “Nova,” with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

  1. Why does this article suggest that the link offers a “full list of nominees” when all it takes you to is a list of channels / stations nominated? Why do they think the individual shows / documentaries should not be recognized? Or that they don’t matter?
