Hulu has rejected an ad that Planned Parenthood wanted to run on the streaming service, with Variety reporting that Hulu determined the ad’s content does not meet its standards for political ads.
The organization wanted to run the ad on Hulu’s drama series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which Variety notes “depicts a world in which fertile women are forced to become child-bearing servants.” The report says Hulu wanted “to make a point about the pending Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh and the effect it could have on a woman’s right to choose an abortion.”

Variety notes that executives at Planned Parenthood, which has run ads on Hulu as recently as June, were surprised by the rejection of the spot.
Dana Singiser, Planned Parenthood’s vice president of public policy and government affairs, said in a statement: “Hulu’s decision shouldn’t stop Americans from learning about what’s at stake for women and our bodies with Kavanaugh’s nomination, and from calling their senators to oppose his nomination.”
