Just two days after the announcement that Alec Baldwin had been cast in the high-profile “Joker” movie, Baldwin has dropped out of the project. Baldwin had been on track to play Thomas Wayne, Batman’s father, in the Joaquin Phoenix movie.

USA Today quotes Baldwin saying today: “I’m no longer doing that movie. I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part.” Baldwin reportedly cited scheduling issues.

The murders of Thomas Wayne and his wife, Martha Wayne, figure prominently in the Batman origin story, serving as inspiration for Bruce Wayne to become the crimefighter Batman.

“Robert De Niro, ‘Deadpool 2’ breakout star Zazie Beetz and ‘GLOW’ actor Marc Maron have already been cast in the gritty standalone story due out Oct. 4, 2019,” USA Today notes.
