The upcoming 70th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast, set to air Sept. 17 on NBC, will have to compete for viewers with a counterprogramming event on IFC, which announced plans today to run the premiere of Megan Amram’s “An Emmy for Megan.”

“It’s not often that a web series is so groundbreaking that it’s aired on television, but IFC will make an exception for this one,” the network noted in today’s announcement. “‘An Emmy for Megan’ tells the emotional, epic tale of one strong woman (Megan) and her passionate quest to win an Emmy. According to its creator, producer, director and star Megan Amram, it is, without hyperbole, the most important piece of entertainment of the past 2,000 years.”

The announcement adds: “While this series meets the minimum requirements needed to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series, it meets the maximum requirements needed to entertain you for an entire evening! The 28 minute, 7 second web series will have its exclusive broadcast premiere on IFC on September 17, 2018.”

Amram is quoted saying (crying): “I hope you enjoy my web series on IFC. Since the internet is hard to access unless you have a smart phone or a laptop or a tablet or a desktop computer or an eBook reader or an iPod touch or a Smart TV or an Apple Watch, we’ve put it on cable television where it’s easy to find!”

Blake Callaway, IFC General Manager, added: “‘Slightly Off’ is alive and well and easy to find at IFC. What IFC loves most about Megan is that she is all about the art, and also the hardware.”

The announcement adds: “In April, the television writer and comedienne barely made the Emmy submission deadline with the release of her six-episode comedic web series ‘An Emmy for Megan,’ in which Amram meets all of the minimum requirements to qualify for an Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series nomination. When the nominations were announced, Amram actually received two nominations, one for her brave and tumultuous performance, and also a second nomination as a producer in the Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series category.”
