Donald Trump is calling on his supporters to direct their anger at ESPN in response to the sports channel’s decision not to play the national anthem before games on “Monday Night Football.”
“In a fundraising letter sent out Wednesday by the Trump 2020 reelection committee, the President centered his ire on the Disney-owned sports outlet and what he called its ‘spineless surrender to the politically correct liberal mob,'” Dominic Patten writes on Deadline.
The letter from Trump also reportedly says: “If ‘America’ is too offensive for anyone in our country, then what are they doing in America?”
Patten notes that Trump also discussed ESPN and the NFL during a rally Tuesday night in West Virginia. Patten quotes Trump telling his cheering supporters at the rally: “You’re proud of our country, you’re proud of our history, and unlike the NFL, you always honor and cherish our great American flag. It was just announced by ESPN that rather than defending our anthem, our beautiful, beautiful national anthem and defending our flag, they’ve decided that they just won’t broadcast when they play the national anthem. We don’t like that.”
