An actor who played a beloved TV character for almost a quarter-century, from 1983-2008, has died. Frank Parker, who played “Grandpa” Shawn Brady on the NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” died Sept. 16 of complications from Parkinson’s disease and dementia, according to media reports. He was 79.
Parker appeared as Brady family patriarch Grandpa Shawn off and on over the years on “Days” until the character was killed off in February 2008 after he gave up his oxygen mask on a sabotaged plane to save his son Bo. Soon afterward, Parker retired from acting for health reasons.
Earlier in his career, Parker had a long series of guest roles on TV shows including “Mission: Impossible,” “Little House on the Prairie,” “Hogan’s Heroes,” “Ironside,” “Barnaby Jones,” “Wonder Woman,” “Black Sheep Squadron,” “CHiPs,” “The Fall Guy,” “Quincy M.E.” and many others.
