A political talk show will televise a star-studded special in honor of its 15th anniversary. HBO announced plans today for the “Real Time with Bill Maher: Anniversary Special,” premiering Oct. 19 on HBO.
Among the guests slated to appear are Salman Rushdie, Maureen Dowd, Billy Crystal, Larry David, Martin Short, Woody Harrelson and Barbra Streisand.
The special celebrates 15 years of Maher’s current weekly HBO series as well as Maher’s 25 years overall of political comedy TV talk shows.
The special “looks back at highlights of Maher’s irreverent run on TV, featuring archival footage from both ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ and ‘Politically Incorrect,'” HBO said in today’s announcement, adding: “‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ allows Maher to offer his unique perspective on contemporary issues, and features an opening monologue, roundtable discussions with panelists and interviews with guests, capped off by his iconic ‘New Rules.’ Maher headlined his first special on the network in 1989 and has starred in 11 HBO solo specials to date, including the recent ‘Bill Maher Live from Oklahoma.'”
The special is executive produced by Maher, Scott Carter, Sheila Griffiths, Marc Gurvitz, Dean E. Johnsen, Billy Martin, Mark Herzog and Christopher G. Cowen.
