Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Unveils This Year’s Nominees

Oct 9, 2018  •  Post A Comment

The list of nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 features nine artists who have been nominated previously along with six first-timers.

But one of those first-timers, Stevie Nicks, is already in the Hall of Fame as a member of Fleetwood Mac. She’s nominated for the first time as a solo artist.

The other first-time nominees are Def Leppard, Devo, John Prine, Roxy Music and Todd Rundgren.

Rapper LL Cool J and the group Kraftwerk are the “veterans” among the nominees, having each made the list four times previously.

This year’s other nominees have all been on the list before too. They are Janet Jackson, MC5, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, The Cure and The Zombies.

  1. It is criminal that Todd Rundgren is not in the Hall of Fame. It is always amazing to me how some of the most influential bands and artists, like last year’s inductee, Moody Blues, are regularly overlooked. Besides his best known hits – Hello Its Me, I Saw the Light and We Gotta Get You a Woman, Rundgren is an outstanding producer. His Producer credits include Bat Out Of Hell; New York Dolls and We’re an American Band. But beyond that he has been one of the leaders in developing ideas for interactive television and moving music to the internet. In 1978, he did the first live interactive concert where the audience chose each song in real time through the Warner/Qube system. That same year he broadcast, nationally, the first live stereo radio concert across 40 cities using microwave technology. In 1980, he created the first color graphics tablet for Apple. In 1982 he created the first commercially released music videos. Something we all take for granted today – music downloads – was first done by Rundgren in 1992. This is a small list of his many contributions to the expansion of music into the computer and internet age which has covered over 4 decades. In 2016, he produced the first full length concert in virtual reality. No one deserves to be in the Hall of Fame more than Todd Rundgren. Please give him your vote.

    • It’s like everything else in our culture today, it’s all political. Along with Rundgren can they please induct, Foreigner, Ted Nugent, Jim Steiman & Meatloaf (Bat Out of Hell, 3rd best selling album of all time) & Iron Maiden. The Rock and Roll HOF is a “JOKE”.
