An actor who has received strong reviews for a couple of recent high-profile TV roles will star in Disney’s new “Star Wars” TV series. Variety reports that Pedro Pascal is on track to land the role in “The Mandalorian,” which is expected to run on the Disney streaming service Disney+.

“Pascal’s name had previously been rumored for the role, but sources say he was one of many actors being considered. Now, insiders tell Variety that he has been offered the role and negotiations are under way,” Variety reports.

Pascal is fresh off star-making roles as Prince Oberyn in “Game of Thrones” and Javier Pena in “Narcos.”

“Jon Favreau penned the series, which is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order,” Variety reports. “It follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

Here’s a clip of Pascal talking about “Narcos” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last year …
