The title of Sony Pictures’ upcoming movie about children’s television personality Fred Rogers will be familiar to anyone who watched him in “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” Variety reports that the movie, due in theaters in fall 2019, will be called “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”
Tom Hanks plays Rogers in the movie, which is directed by Marielle Heller. Also in the cast are Matthew Rhys, Chris Cooper, Tammy Blanchard and Sakina Jaffrey.
Variety notes that the movie is inspired by a real-life friendship between Rogers and award-winning journalist Tom Junod.
“It tells of a cynical journalist who begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed,” Variety reports.
