Comedian Kevin Hart, who stepped down as host of this year’s Oscars ceremony after becoming mired in controversy over homophobic tweets from 10 years ago, could end up hosting the ceremony after all, the AP reports.

The news stems from an interview Hart gave Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime show this week. In the interview, Hart apologizes for his comments and explains his decision to step down from the Oscars job.

DeGeneres has taken an active role in trying to get Hart back on as Oscars host, including reaching out to the Motion Picture Academy. According to DeGeneres, the Academy wants him back as host.

The Academy has not named a replacement since Hart stepped down.

“You have grown,” DeGeneres tells Hart during the interview. “You have apologized. You’re apologizing again right now. You’ve done it. Don’t let these people win. Host the Oscars.”

Hart reportedly said he would rethink his decision.
