Maroon 5, the rock band that’s scheduled to headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, canceled the traditional news conference ahead of the performance, the AP reports.

“While Maroon 5 did not give a reason for its decision, it comes as some entertainers have said social injustice needs to be addressed during the Super Bowl,” the AP reports. “That has led to some criticism of performers who are holding events in Atlanta. Jermaine Dupri said he was called a ‘sellout’ for hosting a Super Bowl-related event during a meeting with people who had lost family members as result of police brutality. After the meeting, Dupri and the victims’ family members came to a compromise and the music mogul plans to give mothers a platform to speak onstage during his Super Bowl Live event in Atlanta.”

The NFL commented on the cancellation of the Maroon 5 news conference by saying that “the artists will let their show do the talking as they prepare to take the stage this Sunday.” The league also reportedly said that in place of the news conference it would present behind-the-scenes content on media platforms.

Along with Maroon 5, former Outkast member Big Boi and Houston rapper Travis Scott are scheduled to perform during the halftime show.

  1. Why is Maroon 5 the only artist being attacked? There are numerous artists that are performing at NFL events this week and no one seems to care. Hip hop and R&B artists Ayanis, DJ Holiday & Friends, and Goodie Mob. Country and rock artists Craig Campbell, Hero The Band, Tyler Tritt, and Lyn Avenue. Alyssa Milano is also making an appearance.
