Viacom Cable Channel Hit With Layoffs

A number of Viacom employees have been laid off, with most of the job losses affecting the Viacom-owned Paramount Network, Variety reports. The layoffs are in Viacom’s entertainment group.

“A Viacom spokesperson declined to comment. But a source with knowledge of the situation [said] the number of affected employees was fewer than 20, or less than 2% of the entertainment group’s workforce,” Variety reports.

The report adds: “The layoffs come fewer than three months after Viacom reorganized its entertainment group. Longtime Viacom executive Kevin Kay — who oversaw Paramount Network, TV Land, and CMT — exited the company after two decades in October. The move came as part of a larger restructuring of Viacom’s cable brands under the direction of CEO Bob Bakish.”

  1. Fewer viewers, fewer employees.

    Makes sense.

  2. The way in which Vomitcom has been managing its assets has been lazy and complacent. Sheet Redstone vs Les Moonves war has not helped the company at all. So, in their infinite wisdom wish to have CBS rejoin this killing off that network.
