Cameraman Attacked at Trump Rally

Press advocacy groups are up in arms following an attack on a photojournalist Monday at a Trump 2020 rally in El Paso, Texas, CNN reports. Ron Skeans of the BBC was the apparent victim of the attack.

“A rallygoer gained access to an area designated for the news media and began shoving people, according to video of the incident,” CNN reports. “No one was seriously hurt. But it is the latest example of anti-media hostility boiling over at Trump’s campaign events.”

The BBC later issued a statement saying: “BBC cameraman Ron Skeans was violently pushed and shoved by a member of the crowd. The man was removed by security and Ron is fine.”

CNN reports that journalism advocacy groups “condemned the incident and connected it to the president’s constant criticism of the press.”

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, the White House Correspondents Association said: “The president of the United States should make absolutely clear to his supporters that violence against reporters is unacceptable.”

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders commented on the incident later in the day, saying: “President Trump condemns all acts of violence against any individual or group of people — including members of the press. We ask that anyone attending an event do so in a peaceful and respectful manner.”

The Trump 2020 campaign also commented, with the campaign’s chief operating officer Michael Glassner saying: “We appreciate the swift action from venue security and law enforcement officers.”

But BBC News North America editor Jon Sopel characterized the situation differently in a blog post Tuesday, writing: “There was no security last night, and the attack on Ron was stopped by a Trump-supporting blogger. Law enforcement were slow to get involved.”

  1. At this point you are just dumb if you don’t see how bad trump is for the country. Divisive and the largest deficit ever.

    • I’m guessing said “Trump” supporter was paid by the networks and will never be heard from again.

  2. Where was the Secret Service?

  3. There were numerous Pro-Bund –as in NAZI— rallies across America during the late 30’s and 1940 during which the crowds responded EXACTLY this way toward press reporters and photographers and anyone who opposed the speakers. People in the audience were beaten up and thrown out. Luckily, those rallies ended and the traitors who attended them crawled back into their holes when the US went to war against Hitler. Sadly, none of those NAZIs were prosecuted. Mr. Trump’s words chiding the press at this rally AFTER this attack show he probably has studied how the NAZI Propaganda machine worked and likes it when HIS MAGA thugs perform for him.

  4. Oh Bill. Put a sock in it. Either you don’t know $#*$ about history when you compare Trump to Hitler or you really belong to a cult of cool aid swillers. Go back and study what Hitler DID! There is no sane, valid comparison to the drivel you and others spew.
