Luke Perry Update: Actor Sedated in Hospital Following Massive Stroke

Feb 28, 2019  •  Post A Comment

Former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star and current “Riverdale” star Luke Perry remains hospitalized in Los Angeles following what’s being called a massive stroke.

Conflicting reports have surfaced about his current condition, with TMZ reporting that a family member said Perry had been placed into a medically induced coma, while a rep for Perry said that wasn’t true.

The rep said Perry is currently under observation at the hospital. The name of the hospital has not been reported.

TMZ reports that Perry has been sedated.

“Paramedics responded to Luke’s home in Sherman Oaks around 9:40 AM [Wednesday],” TMZ reports. “We know the call came into the fire department for someone suffering a stroke, and Luke was transported to a nearby hospital.”

The report adds: “When paramedics arrived at his home he was responsive and talking but his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital.”

Perry suffered the stroke on the same day that Fox announced it has a “90210” reboot in the works, with many of the key cast members from the original series — but not Perry — signed to appear in the reboot.

As we reported Wednesday, the reboot, which is scheduled to air this summer, will be a six-episode event series featuring original cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling.

Here’s a clip of Perry discussing “Riverdale” two years ago on NBC’s “Today” …

  1. When you suffer a massive stroke, your not in hospital simply being observed . You would be placed in a medicaly induced coma due to brain swelling. Our prayers are with Luke for a complete recovery..massive = brain damage, (usually.) PRAYERS !

  2. My boyfriend had a massive stroke and was placed in a medically induced coma. The medical staff also called this “sedation”, so the two terms can mean the same thing. The big question is, was the stroke hemorrhagic (brain bleed, requiring surgery, like my bf) or ischemic (clot, requiring blood thinners and other clot treatment) – which has a much better prognosis. Either way, we’re absolutely devastated to hear this and praying for Luke and his family. This is a horrible thing to go through.
