Trump Critic Vows to Keep Up Tradition of Skewering Him on the Night of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner

One of Donald Trump’s most outspoken critics hopes to fill the void left when the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner broke with tradition by eliminating the comedian from the program.

Samantha Bee announced plans to air her second annual “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” on April 27, the same night as this year’s WHCA event. The host of TBS’s “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” will tape her event the previous day, Friday, April 26, at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington.

“I vowed never to host a NWHCD ever again,” said Bee. “But the White House Correspondents’ Association has left me no choice — it is now up to comedy journalists to take care of real journalists. Even if those journalists insist on wearing corduroy.”

In its announcement about the program, TBS adds: “The gala event will feature Bee’s signature comedy, celebrity guests, and better food than last time. The event will bring together journalists, members of the media, and all those who are committed to reaffirming the First Amendment.”

Added Bee: “It’s bigger than just the Free Press this time around. This is about the non-sexy parts of the First Amendment too — and if the White House Correspondents’ Association won’t defend them, we will.”

TBS notes that “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner 2” will be televised “at the exact same time as the official White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday April 27th at 10PM ET / PT on TBS. Kismet!”

Proceeds from “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” will go to the Committee to Protect Journalists (cpj.org), which TBS notes “did not ask for Bee’s help in 2017 and probably didn’t ask for it this time either.”

Bee added: “I had to put out this press release so that I wouldn’t be able to change my mind. I hope this isn’t a mistake.”

  1. Spoiler Alert: It’s a mistake.

  2. Samantha Bee…??? Is she a character in a children’s story? Doesn’t she buzz around the neighborhood sowing pollen for resistance movement flowers or something ??
