Chicago prosecutor Kim Foxx, who sparked an angry backlash with her handling of the Jussie Smollett case, now has a round-the-clock security detail after receiving death threats, TMZ reports.
Foxx revealed this week that she began getting death threats soon after her office decided to drop all charges against “Empire” actor Smollett stemming from his report of an alleged hate crime in Chicago — a report that is now widely believed to have been bogus.
Foxx said she has been receiving “racially charged” death threats, TMZ notes, citing sources close to Foxx saying she has added a team of bodyguards.
“We’re told she’s deeply concerned, not only about her own safety, but also that of her family — which is why she agreed to the security detail,” TMZ reports. “Foxx is married with 4 children. The sources did not want to reveal specifics about the nature of the security in order to ‘guarantee its effectiveness.'”
