Talk show legend Larry King has been hospitalized after suffering what was initially reported as a heart attack, although there’s some controversy over exactly what happened.

TMZ reported that King, 85, suffered a heart attack last Thursday after going into cardiac arrest. However, the publication subsequently heard from King’s publicist that the TV icon suffered an angina attack and did not have a heart attack, nor did he go into cardiac arrest. According to the publicist, King then underwent a successful angioplasty.

“However, our sources are clear — doctors told Larry’s wife, Shawn, that he DID suffer a mild heart attack and there were proteins in his blood — a clear sign of a heart attack,” TMZ adds.

In its initial report, TMZ said: “Sources with direct knowledge tell us, Larry had been having difficulty breathing for months and was scheduled to check himself into the hospital Thursday for an angiogram.

“We’re told while he was at home getting ready to go to the hospital, he went into cardiac arrest. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where doctors performed an angioplasty. They opened up an artery that had collapsed and inserted several stents.”

The report notes that King has had heart issues for 30 years.
