High-profile magician David Blaine is reportedly the focus of an investigation by law enforcement officials in New York over allegations that he sexually assaulted at least two women.
The Daily Beast quotes NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea during a press conference Monday saying that “there is an active investigation” into complaints against Blaine by the department’s Special Victims Unit.
“A senior NYPD official with knowledge of the probe told The Daily Beast that SVU detectives took statements from two women,” the report adds. “At least one of the claims may fall outside the statute of limitations: A woman told detectives she was sexually assaulted by Blaine inside his Manhattan apartment in 1998, according to a person familiar with her complaint.”
Blaine, who has not been charged with a crime, is denying the allegations. The AP cites a statement from his publicist saying he intends to cooperate with authorities.
“David denies the accusations that have been reported and he takes these allegations seriously,” the statement says.
