May 8, 2019  •  Post A Comment

The timetable’s set for the anchor chair handoff at “CBS Evening News,” and it starts this Friday. Variety reports that Jeff Glor will step down as anchor of the flagship CBS News program following Friday’s broadcast.

Norah O’Donnell will be taking over the anchor’s chair, but not until this summer.

Glor, “who has been the face of ‘CBS Evening News’ since late 2017, has told staff he will step down as anchor of the evening newscast after Friday’s program, according to three people familiar with the matter,” Variety reports, adding: “Glor is currently in discussions about taking a new role at CBS News, and Susan Zirinsky, the president of the news operations, told Variety earlier this week that the anchor remains in discussions with CBS News ‘about a couple of different roles, and I hope he stays.’”

Variety adds: “CBS News declined to make executives available for comment, and the network has not yet indicated who might fill in at ‘Evening News’ until O’Donnell starts her tenure.”

Here’s a clip from Monday’s “CBS Evening News” in which Glor talks about the news that he will be leaving the broadcast …

  1. I left ABC for CBS andI liked Jeff’s reporting style and wonder whose parade he rained on. Hopefully he will be given another prestigious position with CBS. ABC is to far left for me after almost 50 years of being an avid follower from the days of Geraldo in NYC with his action news reporting.

  2. Jeff Glor was great. He reported the news without involving politics. Norah O’Donnell displays her political views so I will now discontinue CBS.com. I paid the $6.50 a month to stream to simply see Jeff Glor and the evening news. He will be missed. Will now go to Fox news.

  3. This is a very Sad Day for our Household……Watching Jeff Glor sign off for the last time on the News was Heartbreaking.. Such Talent! Such compassion for the people he worked with at CBS…So much emotion shown when a story touched his heart and ours also….The news will always happen,,but it’s sad to have such a dedicated
And Award Winning Anchor removed from his Job and replaced by someone else…
The ratings race with the three networks will continue, Jeff, given more time,
Would have closed that gap…but now we will never know…
What I do know, is that we will no longer watch CBS, But will switch over to one of the other Channels…
Good Luck and God Speed Jeff Glor! Hope to See you Soon On a New Assignment!

  4. Jeff Glor brought such humanity to his evening broadcast. His delivery made even the hard-to-watch news stories easier to deal with. He will be greatly missed in our household and sadly it will also mark a change in our daily news watching to Lester Holt’s broadcast. Although I am sure Norah is more than capable of taking over the broadcast, I have never cared for her cold delivery of the news, whether it be morning or evening.

  5. Jeff was t he best.you will be sorry for replacing him with Nora she is good but not for t he nightly news I also will be watching another channel for my news

  6. Sorry to see Jeff leave. I will going back to NBC.

  7. My daughter and I were sad to see Jeff replaced by CBS. His broadcasts had a very human touch and we were always waiting til the end to see those very real emotions come across from him on screen. Probably won’t see that trait with Nora.
