Woody Harrelson, who recently played Archie Bunker in the live TV reboot of ‘All in the Family,’ has signed up to star in a limited series as Timothy Leary, the counterculture icon who was famous for advocating the use of LSD, reports Mike Fleming Jr. in a scoop for Deadline.

“Based on the critically acclaimed book ‘The Most Dangerous Man’ by Bill Minutaglio and Steven L. Davis,” Fleming writes, “the series follows Leary’s daring prison escape and run from the law in 1970. Aided by the Weather Underground, Leary’s prison break was the counterculture’s union of ‘dope and dynamite,’ aimed at sparking a revolution and overthrowing the government. The ensuing global manhunt, led by President Nixon, spanned 28 months and wound its way among homegrown radicals, European aristocrats, a Black Panther outpost in Algeria, an international arms dealer, hash-smuggling hippies from the Brotherhood of Eternal Love and secret agents on four continents.”

  1. I know a lot of people reading this likely don’t know the story because of their age. I so hope that this is done well. It is an unbelievable story how he avoided the law for almost three years. But hopefully it will give an insight into the culture that many of us were on the fringe of and aspired to during the 60’s and 70’s.
