CBS Warns It Could Be Dropped in About 24 Million Homes

CBS has issued a warning that the network and many of its top stations — including those in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago — could be dropped from DirecTV and AT&T U-verse systems because of an impasse in carriage negotiations.

“CBS has reached timely, fair agreements with hundreds of other cable, satellite, telco and internet providers to carry our industry-leading, fan-favorite programming,” the company said in a statement released today. “AT&T, however, continues to propose unfair terms well below those agreed to by its competitors and may drop CBS unless we agree to those terms.”

The network has set up a website, www.KeepCBS.com, to keep viewers informed on the status of talks.

“CBS would like to avoid being dropped, but unless an agreement is reached, our viewers should be prepared for DirecTV and AT&T U-verse TV to remove CBS-owned television stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, Boston, Atlanta, Tampa, Seattle, Detroit, Minneapolis, Miami, Denver, Sacramento, Pittsburgh and Baltimore at 11:00 PM, PT on July 19,” the network’s statement notes. “DirecTV Now customers nationwide would lose the CBS Television Network’s hit programming as well.”

If CBS is dropped it will affect close to 24 million homes, according to media reports.

  1. AT&T keep CBS

  2. Viewers can still watch local CBS stations (along with their other digital sub-channels), even if AT&T drops CBS, if they connect up a digital antenna to their television— good old rabbit ear antennas, also known as free tv.

    • What about the rural people. They don’t have access to all the network stations. They would have to put up a 30 foot antenna to get them. This OTA stuff is for people that live near the city.

  3. Please keep CBS on DirecTV….. my favorite soaps and game shows and dramas are on this channel…I have been an avid fan for over 40 years in the Dallas, Texas area. Don’t do it!!!!!

  4. KEEP CBS!!!! I have been customer of ATT foe 20 years. ATT DO NOT CUT CBS.

  5. Please keep CBS

  6. This is ridiculous. Work it out and keep CBS. It is too popular and carries too many favorite programs.

  7. Have you taken leave of your senses? KEEP CBS or lose a LOT of customers.

  8. You’ve already one local channel from us. Now your going to do another one. Keep CBS my God it’s bad enough we pay out the ass for your company as it is. Keep this up ATT and DirecTv you will lose millions of customers.
