A young actor who has been playing a lead role in the Disney Channel’s series of “Descendants” TV movies has died. Cameron Boyce, who played Carlos in the musical fantasy films, died Saturday, according to media reports. He was 20.

Boyce’s family said in a statement that he died in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles “due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated.” Other details about his death were not released.

Boyce chalked up a long series of TV and film credits during his career. Boyce followed up on his starring role in 2015’s “Descendants” with a reprise of his role as Carlos in “Descendants 2” in 2017. Production on “Descendants 3″ has reportedly been completed, with Boyce scheduled to again star as Carlos when the film premieres on Disney Channel on Aug. 2.

He won a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film — Young Ensemble Cast” as a member of the cast of “Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer” in 2012, and was nominated for two Behind the Voice Actors Awards in 2014, for Best Male Vocal Performance by a Child and Best Vocal Ensemble in a Television Series — Children’s/Educational, both for “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” in which Boyce provided the voice of the title character Jake.
