Byron Allen Lashes Out at Comcast, ‘Donald Trump’s DOJ’

Entertainment Studios head Byron Allen sounded off about Comcast and the Department of Justice as his $20 billion racial discrimination lawsuit against the media giant heads toward the U.S. Supreme Court.

Deadline reports that Allen lashed out at an Aug. 15 brief filed by the government seeking to tighten the definitions of a Reconstruction-era statute in Comcast’s favor.

“This is historic,” Allen is quoted saying. “Donald Trump’s DOJ and Comcast are working together to destroy a civil rights statute in the U.S. Supreme Court.”

He adds: “You have one of the biggest media companies in the world, which has been beating up Donald Trump for racism, and now they are saying, we will work together to maintain institutionalized racism in America, in this Amicus Brief they delivered last Thursday.”

Deadline adds: “The newly declared emphasis by the DOJ now puts a more than 150-year law in a distinctly different light from how Allen’s lawyers have been reading it, as the Department’s filing openly says.”

The suit is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court on Nov. 13.

  1. I used to have great respect for Byron Allen and what he had accomplished with entertainment studios.com.

Instead he’s fallen back on the same old victim mentality, first alleged racism by station owners who declined who run his programming (“You think my programs are boring – you must be a racist!”) and now Trump and the DOJ are at fault.

People who purchase programming are pretty simple – if they think it will draw eyes and revenue dollars, it sells.

Providing sub-par programming and crying “racism” when it doesn’t is getting very old, very fast.

    • I don’t disagree with much of what you say. The problem is that program buyers have been known to not broadcast programming because of racial bias. Star Trek’s famous kiss comes to mind. Southern NBC affiliates refused to show that episode. It is doubtful all such bias has vanished, even after 50+ years.

As a die-hard capitalist, I wish it were as simple as worship of the color green trumping the disdain for other colors… but bigotry makes people stupid. Some people will cut off their nose to spite their face.

  2. Why is Trump or the DOJ even being mentioned? This suit started before he was President. The two parties decide if they want to appeal. Not the DOJ or the President. It is more difficult if Comcast doesn’t roll over like ATT did and wants to spend the money on lawyers instead of content.

    • The Trump DOJ is being mentioned because the DOJ just filed a brief that advocates an interpretation of the law that is disadvantageous to Byron Allen’s position. It’s a shame that the article doesn’t give us any details about that statute and how the DOJ is proposing it be interpreted.

  3. Once again, President Trump and his administration standing up for true American values. Thank you, sir. While racism exists in this country, the degree to which many say it exists is largely a myth. We need to show those who cry racism every time they don’t get their way that they’re wasting everyone’s time and valuable resources. Shut up, do your job, be successful and this country will reward you. God bless.

  4. I love the statement from above … right on …

Allen has crap content and zero rating shows and shoves
racism based lawsuits down people’s throats … when there
are infinite people of color (like the Wayans Bros) who have
to fight tooth and nail in the real world to get their noteworthy
projects to market … Byron … shame on you … you claim
of discrimination with endless and obnoxious legal activity
is hurting the very population you claim you represent …

People of Color unite (PLEASE) and reject this fraud!
