Jeffrey Epstein Found Dead in Manhattan Jail Cell; Police Officials Say It Was An Apparent Suicide

“Jeffrey Epstein, the millionaire financier and accused sex trafficker, is dead by apparent suicide, according to three officials familiar with the matter,” reports NBC News.

The story continues, “Epstein was in his cell but was not on suicide watch at the time of his death, multiple people familiar with the investigation told NBC News.

“His death comes a little over two weeks ago after he was found injured and in a fetal position in his cell at the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan. He was semiconscious with marks on his neck at the time.

“In July, two sources told NBC News that Epstein was on suicide watch. His death also comes one day after a trove of court documents were unsealed providing new details about Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking.”

As the news of Epstein’s apparent suicide spread Saturday morning, a number of people reacted with skepticism, according to the Washington Examiner.

Here are two examples cited by the Examiner:

“Authorities couldn’t keep Epstein alive by putting him under 24 hour surveillance? How convenient for a lot of rich and powerful men,” ‘Morning Joe’ host Joe Scarborough said in a tweet.

Said Brooklyn Public Defender Scott Hechinger in a personal tweet, “I am not into conspiracy theories. But Epstein had destructive information on an extraordinary number of extraordinarily powerful people. It is not easy to commit suicide in prison. Especially after being placed on suicide watch. Especially after already allegedly trying.”

According to Deadline, “The Federal Bureau of Prisons said the FBI is investigating his death.”

  1. And, conveniently, there was no video surveillance where he was being held.

This screwup is going to be story fodder for a number of TV crime shows and a conspiracy movie or two.

  2. Replace “Jeffrey Epstein” with “high ranking organized crime informant” who “apparently committed suicide” under the exact same circumstances and you could see why people on both the left and the right agree that this stretches credibility to the breaking point.
